Beijing, 29th December, 2018, (BISTU)— Secretary General Wang Chuanliang of CPC BISTU Committee and President Wang Yongsheng, accompanied by directors of General Administration Office, Office for Security Affairs, Office for Academic Affairs, Office for Scientific Research and Logistics Department, conduct survey on campus safety to prevent potential safety hazards.
Wang Chuanliang and Wang Yongsheng carefully inspect boiler rooms, some labs and classrooms, and warehouses with detailed inspection on power and heating supply on campus, storage and management of hazardous chemicals, equipment and instruments in labs, and fire safety. With regard to potential dangers exposed during the inspection, relating directors provide feedbacks and they are asked to take immediate measures to prevent any hidden danger from threatening campus safety.
Wang Chuanliang and Wang Yongsheng raise clarified requirements on campus safety and security. Firstly, all shall enhance political awareness and strengthen the sense of responsibility. Wang Chuanliang and Wang Yongsheng emphasize that campus safety is an important issue of the University. It deserves attention of all divisions. The awareness of safeguarding campus safety shall be strengthened at any minute. The personal liable shall be more self-conscious in preventing hidden dangers in respect of management, technology, and supervision. Secondly, safety management as well as system construction on safety, i.e., a long-effect mechanism of campus safety, shall be established and gradually perfected. Software and hardware of the University is to be constantly improved. All equipment and instruments in labs shall be carefully maintained and checked on regular intervals. Lab reagent and consumables shall be strictly managed in terms of sources, process of use, and disposal. It is a must to make sure there are no blind spots, leaks, or accidents on campus safety. Thirdly, efforts shall be invested in inspection and daily work so as to dig out possible potential safety hazards. The inspection shall not be conducted just in formality. Hidden dangers are to be identified and handled in a timely manner. And fourthly, education on safety awareness shall be further strengthened among faculties, staff and students. All regulations and notices on safety must be clearly visible wherever necessary. All faculties, staff, and students must strictly follow regulated, proper procedures in doing experiments. And safety training will be organized on regular intervals while competence of self-rescue of faculties and students are to be enhanced.
Wang Chuanliang and Wang Yongsheng stress that safety is by no means a thing of little importance. Responsibility in safety is heavier even than we usually expect. Keeping a safety campus shall be a politically important mission for the whole university and we shall make sure all safety measures are to be actually, steadily implemented. It is necessary to build an environment of education with safety and warmth so as to provide safeguard for super normal, big-stride development of the University.
Following this inspection, the University will also conduct an overall inspection on campus safety based on the principle of “complete coverage, zero tolerance, severe punishments and focus on actual effect”.
